Churchill Orchard survived the fires

27th Dec 2017

What a December we are having, but our small crop of Kishus and most of our Pixies survived.
It's going to be a tight year all around up here. We lost half our avocado crop to the high winds that drove the Thomas fire, plus 20% of the Pixies. We consider ourselves lucky. We're focused on getting the Kishu harvest season underway on schedule.

In the tumult and dislocation of aftermath, we're hoping to reassemble our picking and packing crews. Many jobs and housing have been lost to the fire in the Ojai Valley. The valley's two largest employers - Ojai Valley Inn and Oaks of Ojai - are both closed for repairs. Some of our neighbor orchards had acreage burned, irrigation systems melted.

We could use some rain.
